Deplanche's Lorikeet is a "Rainbow" lorikeet, a subspecies of the Green-naped.
It has some blue on its face on a black and indigo head, a faint green nape, a light green collar,
red breast, sometimes with slight dark feather edges or shadows, green stomach and thighs.
Deplanche's is similar in appearance to the Green-naped Lorikeet,
but is a little darker (especially the head), has less dark edging to the breast feathers and has a less-mottled underside.
It is native to New Caledonia but should not be confused with the probably extinct
New Caledonian Lorikeet (Charmosyna diadema).
