It has some blue on its face on a black and indigo head, a faint green nape, a light green collar, red breast, sometimes with slight dark feather edges or shadows, green stomach and thighs. Deplanche's is similar in appearance to the Green-naped Lorikeet, but is a little darker (especially the head), has less dark edging to the breast feathers and has a less-mottled underside.

It is native to New Caledonia but should not be confused with the probably extinct New Caledonian Lorikeet (Charmosyna diadema).

Massena's Lorikeet
Another "Rainbow" lorikeet, the Coconut Lorikeet or Lory is probably so named since the birds are important pollinators of coconuts for human food (while gathering nectar). It is also called Massena's Lorikeet. It has a dark head flecked with blue, a mid green nape (darker than Deplanche's), red breast with black-edged feathers, green stomach with slight yellow mottling on lower part and green thighs also with slight yellow mottling. It is native to eastern New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
