The Yellow-naped Amazon is native to Central America.
It is sometimes considered a subspecies of the Yellow-crowned group, as Amazona ochrocephala auropalliata,
together with the Yellow-headed Amazons.
The amount of yellow on the head varies for individuals. In addition to the yellow nape, the bill is dark with a lighter flare on the nominal subspecies.
The Roatan (Yellow-naped) Amazon, Amazona auropalliata caribae, is native to Honduras.
Its bill is lighter than in the nominal subspecies and these shown also have a yellow crown.
The Honduras (Yellow-naped) Amazon, Amazona auropalliata parvipes, is native to Honduras and Nicaragua.
