Yellow-crowned Amazon Parrots Amazona ochrocephala

The Yellow-crowned Amazon: the yellow crown that gives the parrot its name can be a fuller yellow head or just a small patch of yellow on the brow.

The nominal subspecies, A. o. ochrocephala, is native to northeast South America from Colombia to the Guyanas and northeast Brazil.

The bill is dark with a pinkish patch on the upper mandible.

The Marajo Yellow-crowned/Yellow-headed Amazon, Amazona ochrocephala xantholaema, is native to Marajo Island in the Amazon delta, northeast Brazil. It often has a full yellow face.

The Panama Amazon/ Panama Yellow-crowned/-headed Amazon, Amazona panamensis/ Amazona ochrocephala panamensis, above, is sometimes included as a Yellow-crowned subspecies and sometimes treated as a full separate species. It is native to Panama through to northwest Colombia and has a horn-coloured beak with dark tips.
