The Yellow-faced Parrot is native to South America. It used to be classed as
the Yellow-faced Amazon but was moved from that genus.
Like the Short-tailed Parrot, it is native to the Amazon basin area and the only bird in its genus.
They are both related to each other and to the Pionus genus of parrots.
Male and female have similar plumage although the amount of yellow and red mottling varies with individual birds.
(An African parrot called the Yellow-fronted Parrot, Poicephalus flavifrons, is confusingly
also sometimes called the Yellow-faced Parrot.)
