The Gemsbok Oryx, also called just the Gemsbok, is native to southern Africa. Like all Oryx, both male and female have horns.
Also like other Oryx, the Gemsbok can survive the dry, desert conditions of the Kalahari, both the heat and the scarcity of water.
There are several ways to scratch an itch.
The Gemsbok (above) is closely related to the similar East African Oryx (Oryx beisa), but the latter
has no black/dark brown on its hind legs nor at the base of its tail (and is genetically distinct).
