The Asian Black Bear is also called the White-chested Bear or the Moon Bear.
The Malaysian Sun Bear and the Indian Sloth Bear are also black with a white bar on their chest, - a V shape for the Asian Black Bear
and a crescent with a warmer cream colour for the Sun Bear. On all fours the bear is some 6 feet long and some 3 feet tall.
Asian Black Bears are native to a large swathe of Asia from the Himalayas to Japan and
north to eastern Russia and China. Male and female have a similar appearance.
The white chest mark is not always visible.
They are vulnerable to hunting, habitat destruction and capture for the horrible "bear bile trade".
