Wolverines look like bears but they are mustelids related to weasels, martens, badgers and otters. They are the largest land-dwelling mustelids.
They are native to the northern forests of Scandinavia, Russia, Siberia, Alaska and Canada.
Their Latin name Gulo means glutton, an alternative name for the animal.
It is a fierce predator, extremely strong for its size, and a scavenger.
Wolverines are mainly solitary except when mating or raising young.
Males and females have a similar appearance, but individuals can be darker or have more pale markings.
