Like Macaws and Amazons, Conures are native to South and Central America and the Caribbean.
The (former) Latin name of many conures is "Aratinga", - "little macaw".
The new genus "Eupsittula" covers the olive-/brown-throated Conures.
The Brown-throated Conure, also called the St Thomas Conure,
is native to north-eastern South America, parts of Central America and the Antilles.
There are several subspecies across the range including island-specific subspecies. The nominal subspecies,
E. p. pertinax above, has a bright orange-yellow face and a blue crown.
The Brown-throated was introduced to the US Virgin Islands, mainly St Thomas from where it takes its alternative name.
The Brown-throated Surinam Conure, E. p. surinama,
(above) is a subspecies native to Surinam, French Guiana and north-eastern Venezuela.
