The Bearded Pig is a wild pig from the forests of Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra and other nearby Indonesian islands.
It is a hairy pig with a tuft of hair on top of its nose rather than a beard.
The Bearded Pig lives in herds. Sows leave the herd and build ground nests to give birth then rejoin with young.
Once a year, herds of Bearded Pigs group together to form a large group of about 100 and travel at night over
hundreds of kilometers to find new feeding grounds (fruit, fungi, roots, earthworms).
They are hunted by man, tigers, leopards and even large pythons. Populations have suffered
from habitat destruction (particularly for palm oil and rubber plantations) and recently from African swine fever.
