The Visayan Warty Pig used to be native to all six Philippine islands of Visayan but is now found only on two
- Negros and Pannay. (The subspecies on Cebu was declared extinct in 2000.)
It has a light band on its snout and cheeks.
A forest-dwelling wild pig, they are critically endangered due to hunting and habitat loss.
The males have warty cushions on their snout to reduce the impact of other males' tusks when fighting,
hence the name Warty Pig.
Males also grow alot more hair in the breeding season, including a Mohican mane that can be raised to make them look bigger.
Visayan Warty piglets are horizontally striped.
