The Greater Kudu is a forest antelope from southern and eastern Africa. From Sudan to the Cape, it has one of the largest ranges for an African antelope.
The significantly larger male has large, spiralled horns and a greyish brown striped coat.
He can reach some 1.6metres (over 5 feet) high at the shoulder.
The smaller female has no horns and is browner; the calf is reddish brown. All have narrow vertical white stripes.

Females and young live in herds.
Males live in small bachelor herds or are solitary.
The Lesser Kudu, see link below, is an entirely separate species but male, female and calves look similar to smaller versions of the Greater Kudu.
