The Bongo is a forest antelope native to jungles of West and Central Africa and to Kenya.
It has twisted horns and a rich red coat with narrow, white, vertical stripes.
The Bongo is Africa's largest forest antelope, reaching some 1.1-1.3 metres (c.4 ft) at the shoulder.
Both male and female have horns, the male's usually larger.
Eastern and Western Bongos have slightly different coat markings and colour
intensity. Shown here is the Eastern or Mountain Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci) with its richer red coat.
The Eastern Bongo is critically endangered.
