An endangered and rare bird from Northeast Mexico, the Maroon-fronted Parrot has a maroon brow, red "shoulders" and bare yellowish skin around its eyes.

It is a large parrot, but smaller than the similar Chestnut-fronted/Severe Macaw (which has a large bare white cheek and a chestnut brow that doesn't run across the top of the eye). Unlike its smaller relative, the Thick-billed Parrot, which nests in holes in trees, the Maroon-fronted Parrot nests in holes on steep limestone cliff faces.
