The Festive Amazon is native to northern South America (Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru).
There are two subspecies, the nominal above left and Bodin's (bodini) above right.
In addition to their colourful faces, adults show dark blue edges to the wing and a red rump, both mainly visible in flight.
Bodin's Amazon Amazona festiva bodini (above) has more blue on its face and more red on its black-lined brow.
