The Lilac-crowned Amazon is native to forests of Mexico's Pacific coast. Populations are endangered
by habitat destruction. A small feral population exists in urban California.
It has a dark red brow, lilac and green crown and a yellow and horn-coloured bill. It has brighter green cheeks than the
similarly-named Lilacine (Ecuadorian) which has red eyebrows and a dark bill. It also has brighter green cheeks than the Salvin's (Red-lored), which
has a brighter red brow, pale blue crown and some black on its light bill.
It can look similar to its compatriot, the Green-cheeked Amazon, especially to juvenile
Green-cheeks with red brows that haven't yet developed the full red crown, although the red of the Lilac-crowned is darker.
