Imperial Pigeons are large, forest-dwelling pigeons with guts adapted for eating fruit without damaging the
seeds so they assist in dispersing them. The Pacific Imperial is native to many of the Pacific islands including islands off Papua
New Guinea and many small islands such as Fiji, Samoa, the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Tonga and several others.
There are two recognised subspecies. The red-eyed adults have a distinctive knob on their black bill.
Juveniles lack the knob and have a less pink breast. The pigeon is trapped and hunted for consumption on some of the islands
and suffers from habiat loss.
