The Indian Star Tortoise, named after the attractive markings on its "carapace" (upper shell),
is native to India and Sri Lanka. The markings are for camouflage.
Unlike the Radiated Tortoise (link below), the Star Tortoise has a light shell background with
dark markings which fade and lighten with age. They can live to over 100 years old.

The Star can grow to 25cm long
They are endangered by the pet/wildlife trade.
The Burmese Star Tortoise is native to dry forests of Myanma and is critically endangered
and close to extinction since it is eaten by the Burmese. They grow to some 28(m)-35(f) cm long.
