The Panther Chameleon is native to tropical rainforest of northern Madagascar.
Depending on the region, some males are vibrant blues, some reds and some orange.
Colour intensity changes according to mood, temperature and social interaction.
One of the largest chameleons, males, which can grow to nearly 20 inches (50cm) in length,
are more brightly-coloured and significantly larger than females.
Colour is most variable and brightest when courting or defending territory.
Like all chameleons, Panthers have independently swivelling eyes, long tongues and grasping feet for climbing.
Chameleons are lizards. Some, including the Panther, have prehensile tails. This helps with their arboreal lifestyle.
