The Carpathian Lynx (above) is the largest subspecies of Eurasian Lynx and the largest European wild cat,
weighing up to 35kg (large males).
Native to Romania's Carpathian mountains, Carpathian Lynxes also inhabit forests in other Eastern European countries.
Their prey is diverse from mouse-size to deer/boar.
The Lynx immediately above is the Wrangeli subspecies, Lynx lynx wrangeli, from the northern forests of Eastern Siberia.
The Lynx above is from the Altai Mountains where southern Russia, northeastern Kazakhstan, western Mongolia and northern China meet.
Previously the Altai subspecies, Lynx lynx wardi, this subspecies was declared invalid and the population was considered
synonymous with the Turkestan subspecies, Lynx lynx isabelinus, of Central Asia.
