Livingstone's Fruit Bat, also called the Comoro Flying Fox,
is a large fruit bat native to mountain forests of two of the Comoros Islands off Madagascar.
Mainly nocturnal, they can be active in daytime and can use thermal air currents like birds to reach foraging trees in
daylight/dusk. Diet is mainly fruit, nectar and seeds high in the canopy but can include moths.
Most are black with gold fur on their front and neck, but some are completely black.
The ears are rounded instead of pointed.
The limited population of Livingstone's Fruit Bats is endangered by habitat loss as human populations grow and
also by hunting. Estimates indicate that the species may be extinct in the wild within a decade.
