The Island Flying, also called the Small or Variable Flying Fox Bat, is the smallest of the megabats in the Flying Fox fruit bat group
and is native to South-east Asia including mainland Malaysia, Thailand and Indochina as well as islands such as Indonesia, the Philippines,
the Maldives and Papua New Guinea, among others.
Unlike the "microbats," the vegetarian Fruit Bats don't use echolocation but rely on smell and eyesight.
They perform a useful role in dispersal of seeds and pollen.
