Antlions are related to lacewings and owlflies. The adult, usually nocturnal, looks like a short damselfly or elongated lacewing.
The larva looks like a rounded lacewing larva (aphid lion) and builds traps in sand for ants and small invertebrates.
There are a couple of thousand species globally. The only one in the UK is Euroleon nostrus, a European species
with a few sites in Suffolk and Norfolk. The one shown was in southeast Kazakhstan - probably a Myrmeleon species
but resembling Scotoleon nigrilabris of Colorada/Arizona US.
