Ornate Tetra Megalamphodus (prev. Hyphessobrycon) bentosi

The Ornate Tetra, also called the Bentos or Bentosi Tetra, is native to well-vegetated, slow-moving tributaries of the Amazon and flood plains/lakes associated with them. It is pinkish silver with a white-tipped dorsal fin and red tail fins. Males have longer dorsal fins. The fish grows to some 4 cm long.

The related Rosy Tetra, particularly the White Fin Rosy Tetra, Megalamphodus rosaceus, look remarkably similar. They used to be classed as a subspecies. Apparently the Ornate have a small, dark spot behind the eye which Rosy does not have.
