Chromides are Asian cichlids, closely related to the Madagascan Paretroplus genus.
The Canara Pearlspot Chromide is native only to freshwater systems in South Karnataka, southern India.
It grows typically to 11-12cm long. It eats plants, algae and insects.
It is rare and endangered. It needs clean, well-oxygenated water and the water depths of the two river systems
of its habitat vary seasonally and suffer from agricultural pollution.
