The Tinfoil Barb is occasionally called Schwanefeld's Barb since some other members of the Barbonymus
genus are also called Tinfoil. It is native to Southeast Asia, including much of Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The Tinfoil name is after its shiny silver scales. Closely related to carps, it is a large barb,
growing to some 35cm (14 inches) long.
Its habitat is varied including streams, rivers, ditches and flooded fields/forests. It is an omnivore eating
plants and invertebrates.
It is a peaceful, schooling fish with its own kind and others.
Like other barbs, it is an egg scatterer and releases several thousand eggs on each spawning.
