Blue-backed/Mueller's Parrot Tanygnathus sumatranus

The Blue-backed Parrot, also called Azure-backed or Mueller's/Muller's, is at first glance a fairly plain green parrot with dark green wing feathers bordered with light green and a mid green head and front. As its name indicates, however, it has an extensive mid-blue back (both male and female). As its scientific name shows, it is native to Indonesia and also the Philippines.

The male, above, has a bright red beak.

The female, above, has a horn-coloured beak.
