Superficially similar to the Blue and Gold Macaw but with a blue, rather than black, throat, a fully blue head
(rather than greeny-blue) and pinkish skin near the beak.
The Blue-throated Macaw from Bolivia is the rarest macaw surviving in the wild.
Most macaws are suffering population decline through habitat destruction and trapping for the pet trade.
Juvenile above left. The Blue-throated was believed to have been extinct in the wild until rediscovered in 1992.
