The Silver Pheasant is native to south China, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
There are a dozen or more subspecies, together with natural wild hybrids with other "Lophura" pheasants/firebacks.
The male has a black body with some iridescent dark green or blue markings and a white back, wings and tail, the back and wings marked with a black zigzag pattern;
he has a jet black crest, a bright red face wattle and red legs, the latter differentiating him from some subspecies of the related grey-legged Kalij Pheasant.
The female has a plainish brown back but an intricately-patterned black and white front and underside.
She also has a large pink-red bare facial area around the eyes.
The Silver Pheasant is related to several other Southeast Asian pheasants including the Crested Firebacks.
Full face wattle to protect head in fights

The Jones subspecies has the strongest black and white pattern and is rare - here at Walsrode Bird Park in Germany.
