Quail-doves from the American tropics are medium-sized, ground-dwelling doves which,
although able to fly well, spend most of their time on the ground in shrubbery and forest floors like the Asian "Gallicolumba" Ground Pigeons.
The Blue-headed Quail-dove, the only bird in its genus, is endemic to forests (mainly lowland) and swamps of Cuba.
It used to be common but is now endangered mainly by loss of habitat but also by hunting.
Male and female have similar plumage.
