Like all Sunbirds, the Splendid Sunbird has a specially-shaped bill to drink nectar from flowers.
It has also learnt to hover like a Hummingbird but prefers to perch when possible.
The male, above left, is certainly "splendid" in glossy, iridescent purple and turquoise head and mantle plumage and red chest.
The female, above right, is grey-brown and better camouflaged.
It is native to West and Central Africa.
In addition to nectar they eat seeds, spiders and insects.
