The male Copper Sunbird has purple-red, copper and gold metallic highlights in its black head, neck, chest and rump plumage.
It is native to sub-Saharan West, Central and East Africa.
As with other Sunbirds, the female is mainly brown with some streaking on her front. They live in open or woodland country and eat mainly nectar and insects.
Outside of the breeding season most (non-equatorial birds that have seasons) male Sunbirds lose their bright colours and resemble the females.
