Peters's Twinspot, also called the Red-throated Twinspot, is a small, brightly-coloured finch
native to much of Central, East and southern sub-Saharan Africa.
Male and female have similar plumage. They are not flocking finches, preferring to socialise in pairs and
family units.
They are visually similar to a number of other dark finches with spotted bellies and red patches:
the only other finch in their genus is the Pink-throated Twinspot of southeast Africa; Dybowski's Twinspot and the Green-backed
Twinspot are both totally different genera (from Peters's and from each other); the females of the 3 Bluebill finches
are also dark with bright red and spotted bellies.
