The Yellow Wagtail is native to temperate Eurasia. In the warmer regions
it may be resident but in northerly and easterly areas it migrates south (Africa/Asia) in winter.
There are several subspecies over its range, often with different head plumage and names
(e.g. Black-headed Wagtail, link below). Shown is the UK subspecies, the Yellow-crowned Wagtail,
M. f. flavissima.
The male breeding plumage is stronger yellow and the female paler.
