The Stock Dove is a fairly plain grey dove with iridescent green on the back of the neck and two distinguishing small black bars on each wing,
far smaller than the bars of the Rock Dove/Pigeon.
It is about the size of a Feral Pigeon/Rock Dove, so smaller than a Wood Pigeon
but larger than the Collared Dove, and without the white collar of the former or the black collar of the latter.
It shows subtle colouring, but less so than a Wood Pigeon and less patterned than a Feral Pigeon.
It has a wine-coloured patch on its light beak (smaller than the white of Feral and Wood Pigeons).
Male and female have similar plumage.
The Stock Dove is smaller than the Wood Pigeon (above).
The Stock Dove is a little daintier than the Feral Pigeon.
Less "stocky" than Feral Pigeon.
Stock Dove with Feral and Wood Pigeons.
It is larger than a Collared Dove.
Stock Dove on bird feeder.
This clever Stock Dove has learnt to imitate the parakeets (see below) to eat seeds from the bird feeder.
The Stock Dove is native to most of Europe, part of western and central Asia and a small part of North Africa.
