The Steppe Ribbon Racer, also locally called the Arrow Snake (its name in Russian), inhabits the steppes and deserts of Central Asia.
A type of venomous sand snake, it needs to be fast to catch its prey including the racerunner lizards. Its venom is mild to humans.
The Steppe Ribbon Racer is known in at least Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan (where it featured on stamps), Kazakhstan (those above), western China and Mongolia.
It is also thought to inhabit Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan.
