The Madagascan Tree Boa, also called the Malagasy Tree Boa, is native to forests of Madagascar.
A large snake, it is the smallest of the three boas native to Madagascar. They can grow to some 6 feet (2 metres).
There are two forms that are classified as two subspecies on genetic evidence but may be split into
separate species: the nominal green form (above) S. m. madagascariensis present on the east of the island
and the brown form (below) S. m. volontany present on the west side. Juveniles are red.
They are mainly arboreal (when hunting), preferring waterside or swamp trees, and nocturnal.
