The Blue Dyeing Poison Dart Frog (called variations of Blue Poison Frog and Dyeing Poison Frog) is large for a poison
frog and always bright blue with darker blue legs and variable black spots on its body, head and legs. Their name comes from their
use to poison tips of blow darts by native tribes.
Previously given separate species status as Dendrobates azureus, it is now reclassified by some authorities as
a subspecies of Dendrobates tinctorius azureus, the Dyeing Poison Dart Frog (see link below). Other authorities
refer to colour, structural and other differences to maintain it is a separate species.
Native to a small pockets of isolated forest in Surinam, their range gets smaller each year as savannah and forest
are burnt for farming.
The blue colour varies from turquoise through to indigo.
