The Yucatan Spiny-tailed Iguana is the smallest of 15 "Ctenosaura" spiny-tailed iguanas native to Mexico, Central and South America.
It can grow to some 2 feet in length.
The genus is named after their spiny tails; this species is native to southern Mexico, in particular to the Yucatan peninsula.
