The African Fat-tailed Gecko is native to bush and dry woodland of West Africa. It is terrestrial.
It can grow to some 10 inches (25cm) long.
Most have a barred appearance and some have a central, dorsal white line. The underside is white or pale.
Like its relative the Leopard Gecko, it is unusual for a gecko in having moveable eyelids and does not have "sticky" pads on its feet for climbing.
It can store fat in its tail and live off the fat for days but can also lose the tail if attacked
and regrow a new, mis-shapen tail.
