Pole Dancing Squirrels Sciurus carolinensis
Through the seasons Squirrels have tried to overcome the squirrel-proof tray/baffle to reach the bird feeder.
Mostly they failed, but did become competent pole dancers.
"What's up? And how do I get there?"
Tawnier (Torn ear) was made of sterner stuff
or she didn't read the label saying "squirrel-proof".
"If that Bullfinch can get up there, so can I."
"I can do this."
There were multiple failed attempts
but she made it (even when wet and slippery)
and tasted the rewards of success.
It wasn't a one-off. There were more attempts, many more failures . . .
. . . and more successes
which gave access not only to the crumbs on the table
but to the peanut feeder
and the peanut cake.
Her friend also learnt how to breach the anti-squirrel baffle and to raid the birds' sunflower seeds.
