The West Caucasian Tur is an endangered wild goat (also called goat-antelope, although in the capra
goat/ibex genus) native to the Caucasian mountains of Georgia and European Russia.
The Tur is closely related to the similar-looking Ibex (same genus). Males have large, ridged, backward-curving horns
used for butting rivals and are mainly solitary. Females have short horns and live in small herds.
Like ibex, they live on rocky mountain slopes. Hunting by humans adds to the pressure on the small,
endangered populations.
