The Cape Buffalo, also called the African Buffalo, is native to southern and eastern Africa.
It is the largest and darkest subspecies of the African Buffalo, - the Savannah and Forest Buffaloes being much smaller and the latter
having a different coat colour and shape of horns.
They live on grassland, swamp and bush terrain in varying herds. The basic herd is made up of females and offspring and at least
one dominant male. Later bachelor herds will join to protect young calves before leaving the following season.
They are fiercely protective of their young and themselves and have been known to kill humans, lions and other predators.
