The Sulawesi Crested Macaque, also known as the Black Crested Macaque (and formerly the Celebes Crested Macaque),
is native to the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi and Pulau Bacan.
Despite their lack of tails (only a stub tail), macaques are monkeys rather than apes.
A handshake is not a normal greeting for a macaque.
Clenched teeth mean friendship but yawning is a threat.
The crest/quiff -- raised when excited.
The baby clings on underneath its mother as she walks.
Three hands! They are adept with hands and feet.
"Hold on a minute."
Another selfie?
They live in small groups in rain forest but are mainly terrestrial rather than arboreal.
Their survival is threatened by habitat loss and the growing "bush meat" trade.
