The Barbary Macaque is sometimes called the Barbary Ape but it is a true monkey rather than ape despite not having a visible tail. It is native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and Algeria and to part of Libya; with a population on the Rock of Gibraltar, it is the only (non-human) primate living wild in Europe.
