The Slender Mongoose, also called the Common Slender and Black-tipped Mongoose, is native to much of the dry,
non-desert/non-forest areas of most of sub-Saharan Africa.
Unlike the Banded Mongoose and Merkats, the Slender Mongoose generally is solitary or paired rather than
in a hierarchical tribe. They are not monogamous and males do not assist in raising young. Coat colour varies from the reddish
brown shown - after which it gets its scientific name - to yellowish or grey-black, but always with a black-tipped tail.
It is mainly diurnal.
Prey is mainly insects but also small reptiles and, unusually, since it is a good climber, birds eggs/young.
