Hedgehog feeding
When encountering strange new food or a new scent, Pygmy Hedgehogs will "anoint" themselves with a blend of the new substance and saliva, twisting round to spread it on their spines. (Reflecting traits of origin: Algerian Hedgehog has longer, brown legs and larger ears; White-bellied has shorter, white legs and smaller ears.)
Pygmy Hedgehog on wheel
Pygmy Hedgehog on wheel
They can run some 5 miles a night and need a solid wheel as well as a play pen (apologies for use of flash on animals). The wheel must be solid as they can injure a leg in an open wheel.
In clover
One of the few UK summer evenings above 20 degrees C. Constant supervision and predator-watch required.
