Tipula confusa Crane Flies are native throughout Europe, temperate Asia and North Africa. They are
smaller than many Tipula species. Attracted to light, they are often on house walls and windows.
Tipula confusa Crane Flies have an attractive, "stained-glass-window" pattern on their wings and a striped thorax.
They are well-named since they can easily be confused both with some other Tipula species
which look similar and also with the smaller Limonia nebeculosa crane flies; Limonia species rest with their
wings folded together over their back like T. confusa but unlike most other Tipula species.
T. confusa has a dark, annulated leg patch before its knees, whereas L. nebeculosa has 3 annulated leg marks
as well as different veining and pattern on the wings.
