This Comma caterpillar was just hanging itself up ready to pupate on a Hertfordshire Nature Reserve
notice board as we went in to do maintenance work on the reserve. It secured itself with its silk. The Comma caterpillar
has a large white patch on its side to resemble a bird dropping for camouflage; unfortunately this has over-exposed in the direct sunlight.
When we returned a few hours later, the caterpillar had become a pupa.
