The Eucidella genus of beetles contains some 50 species/subspecies. They are called both "(Horned-)Flower Beetles" and
"Buffalo Beetles", the latter due to the forked horn on the head of the males. (Some other types of beetle are
also known as buffalo beetles).
Eucidella trilineata is native to tropical forests of Malawi and Mozambique. Only the male (above) has the horned head,
for fighting other males. Males grow to some 50 mm.
Females (above centre/right) don't have the horn. Diet is leaf litter for grubs (larvae) and sweet, rotting fruit for adults.
