Banded Demoiselle Damselfly - male Calopteryx splendens
The Banded Demoiselle damselfly is a glistening metallic jewel. The male, top right (talking to a Pond Skater), has a blue-green metallic sheen
and blue-green veined wings with a black in-filled band which gives the damselfly its common name (the apt Latin name being "splendens").
The female, top left with male coupled in a heart, is paler, greener and without the wing band.
Like all damselflies, it has four wings, held parallel to the body when at rest.

The Banded Demoiselle occurs in most of the UK except the far north and over much of Europe through to Central Asia.
